About this CD
In 1997 the first CD of SICUS Klassik was released entitled “Ingeborg Hischer sings Lieder by Schubert, Brahms, Wagner and Strauss”. In his review on December 20, 1997, Roland Comes (Braunschweiger Zeitung) wrote:
“…Of course, the repertory of this first SICUS CD … stays close to time-tested tradition, but who's to complain about that? Especially considering the fact that the artist's contextual interpretation of Franz Schubert's setting of Goethe's “Ganymed” and “Gretchen am Spinnrad” are exquisite. Hischer's warm mezzo-soprano reflects the moving impulses of a loving soul, but she is equally able to recreate with great feeling the dark sides of life reflected in Brahms' “Der Tod, das ist die kühle Nacht”. Wagner's “Wesendonk-Lieder” illustrate the singer's ability to toe the fine line of interpretation she has chosen.”
That older recording is no longer available. This new CD makes use of the original digital material, which has been technically up-dated and expanded to include Strauss' “Morgen” and Schumann's cycle on Queen Mary Stuart's poems.
